The Organizational Mindfulness Program
Everybody is talking about mindfulness these days.
And I love that! Mindfulness practice is critical for building conscious, self-aware and well-balanced leaders.
But it’s one thing to sit on a cushion meditating for two hours a day, which is great. I’ve done it. And it has had profound effects on my life and well-being.
But how can busy professionals find two hours in their day to meditate? Answer: Most can’t!
I spent 5 years learning and practicing secular Buddhism through the Shambhala Center in Boulder, Colorado. Then I became a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher. Both life-changing experiences.
Yet, I was still searching for a way to bring mindfulness to organizations. Until I found the Institute for Organizational Science and Mindfulness and their Organizational Mindfulness Program.
“At the heart of our most intractable business problems, we find people problems: chronic stress and burnout, interpersonal conflict, miscommunications, poor decision-making, and more. We waste massive amounts of money, time, energy and resources trying to fix these issues, while the true cost of this class of problems is much more troubling.”
– Menon and Thompson,
Harvard Business Review, 2016

New Science, New Solutions
For decades, physics research has fueled exponential growth in technologies that have revolutionized our world. Now, neuroscience has begun a similar march toward transforming our knowledge of the brain-and so, our human potential.
We now know that:
- We can change our brain through neuroplasticity.
- Many “fixed” traits are actually trainable skills
- We can develop these skills through intentional neural training
This new knowledge unlocks new solutions for reducing work-crippling fear, anxiety, confusion, and conflict while increasing conscious awareness, attention control, self-regulation, and other foundational capabilities for human performance.
